From the juntariman blog: The DNS (Domain Name System) is used to identify you computer when connected to the net. It’s like a phone book in the internet where host names are translated to IP addresses.

Last week Google launches it public DNS and it proves fast and efficient as i tried it to my PLDT DSL connection. Google’s public DNS addresses are easy to remember: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as preferred and alternate respectively.

via PC World Windows 7 Starter Edition, the version loaded onto netbooks, isn't supposed to offer "advanced" features like ad-hoc network sharing. In this one case, however, finding this feature is as simple as typing the right phrase into the Start Menu search.

Rafael Rivera's Within Windows blog points out that while the dialog that normally starts the ad-hoc networking process in Windows 7 is disabled in Starter Edition, simply searching for adhoc allows you to start it up. That means being able to connect other computers, smartphones, and Wi-Fi-enabled devices to your netbook when it's got a net connection. It's not quite as convenient as Virtual Wireless Networking, which you can enable with Connectify, but it does get the job done.

Lesson 2: Microsoft Word 2007 Basic Features

Lesson 1 familiarized you with the the Microsoft Word window. You are now ready to learn how to create a Word document. This lesson covers typing, using the Backspace key, using the Delete key, inserting text, bolding, underlining, and italicizing.

Lesson 3: More Basic Features

The features in Word 2007 can make your work easier, make your documents more attractive, and/or enable you to work more efficiently. This Microsoft Word lesson teaches you how to open a file, cut, copy, paste, use AutoText, use spell check, use Find and Replace, and change fonts. All of these features either make your work easier or make your document more attractive.

Lesson 4: Formatting Paragraphs and Working with Styles

When you type information into Microsoft Word, each time you press the Enter key Word creates a new paragraph. You can format paragraphs. For example, you can indent the first line of a paragraph, you can set the amount of space that separates paragraphs, and you can align a paragraph left, right, center, or flush with both margins. After you have completed your document, you may want to share it with others. One way to share your document is to print and distribute it. However, before you print you may want to add page numbers and tell Word such things as the page orientation, the paper size, and the margin setting you want to use. Prefer to Use Yahoo! Mail Classic?
There may be times when you prefer to use Yahoo! Mail Classic, such as when you have slower internet connection. It’s easy to switch back and forth between Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Mail Classic as often as you want.

To switch from Yahoo! Mail to Yahoo! Mail Classic, select the Switch to Yahoo! Mail Classic option on the Options menu on the right top side of the page.

In the window that appears, click the Switch to Yahoo! Mail Classic button to confirm that you want to leave the new Yahoo! Mail for now.

This takes you the version of Yahoo! Mail that you’re already familiar with.

When you’re ready to come back to the All-New Yahoo! Mail, click the All-New Mail link in the upper right corner of the Yahoo! Mail Classic page.
